Frequently Asked Questions
Please refer below for frequently asked questions. You are encouraged to reach out with additional questions if not addressed below.
What type of license and education do you have?
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (#82960) in the state of Texas and can work with those across Texas. I earned my Master of Education in School Counseling from Our Lady of the Lake University and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Texas A&M University.
What are your treatment modalities?
I use solution-focused brief therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) for treatment.
Do you offer in-person sessions?
At this time, no. My practice is entirely virtual, meaning I only offer telehealth services at this time. This means I can still provide you with services in the comfort of your own home. However, when I transition to in-person, all clients will be informed and can choose their preferred method.
I don’t live in Texas, can I still schedule an appointment since sessions are virtual?
Unfortunately, no. I can only provide therapy services to those who reside in Texas.
What are your rates?
Rates are $135 per session. All initial/intake sessions are 60-minutes, and the following sessions are 50-minutes. Double-sessions are available upon request for $270.
Please do not allow the above rate to frighten you if you cannot afford the fee. I have limited slots for sliding scale clients and would love to accommodate you if available. Please reach out for further details.
Do you accept insurance?
I currently accept insurance through Headway and Alma. These include Aetna, BCBS, Cigna, and United Healthcare. If you are interested in using your insurance, please check out my profile with Headway or Alma to get started.
However, if you choose to not use insurance, sessions are private pay (out-of-pocket). I can provide a receipt that can be submitted to your insurance company for reimbursement. I highly recommend the amount be clarified with your insurance company regarding telehealth coverage, as I cannot guarantee reimbursement amounts. HSA/FSA cards are also accepted along with major debit cards for payment.
Why private pay if you still accept insurance?
Insurance requires a diagnosis that must meet “medical necessity” in order to be covered, and this diagnosis becomes part of your medical record. We experience so much in life that causes distress, however, insurance companies prefer diagnoses that can be found in the DSM-V. I love treating people who are dealing with the difficulties of life without having to label them with a diagnosis. Additionally, the number of sessions may be limited based on your insurance plan. Should they choose to discontinue coverage for future sessions, your treatment will end or you will have to pay out-of-pocket to continue. However, for those who cannot afford the private pay rate, I wanted to also provide them the same access to mental health services.
How long will therapy last?
Counseling is not an exact science, and treatment ranges on an individual basis. Sessions can range from 12-weeks to 6-months to a year. The goal is not to be in therapy for an extended amount of time. Length is also determined during our first session as we discuss the presenting issue. I check in often throughout our time together to assess progress, and tentative termination will be discussed then. However, if concerns arise prior to this, they can be discussed at your discretion.
Do you work with children or adolescents?
At this time I do not work with children or adolescents via telehealth.
